Augmented Reality

About Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality is a live view of the real world augmented with computer generated information (graphics and sound) in real time. Augmented reality enhances the user's perception for practical or aesthetic purposes or even offers interaction with the digital layers through normal interaction of the user with the real world. Augmented reality is perceived through some display, typically a screen/TV or a handheld device but also head-mounted displays, or through projection of computer graphics onto real objects. AR systems add layers of relevant information in some way that is meaningful to the user. Interaction can take place through movement in space, change of view or manipulation of real objects.

There are many applications of Augmented Reality: entertainment (enriched sports broadcasts, enhanced sightseeing, games and event attractions etc), marketing (web applications, videowall installations, overlaying advertisements on TV broadcasts), medicine and engineering (supporting complicate tasks with useful information and gauges layed over the real objects), navigation (integrating maps and guides in the real view of the world) etc.

Revonotion's AR Platforms

Revonotion offers Augmented Reality platforms that employ physical markers to overlay 3D graphics over the live image acquired by a camera. These platforms can include powerful features such as advanced interactivity, sound and animated graphics and are available in Flash versions for Web applications (e.g. games or brand advertisements) and as standalone applications for screen/videowall installations for marketing or artistic purposes.

See below for a simple demo of the web-based augmented reality platform with very simple interactivity.

Demo

To run this demo:

  • markerPrint this marker (on clear white paper in black color). If you have one of our business cards you can use the marker on its back (if you are using a card you have to bring it near your webcam and make small movements since they are so small!).
  • Make sure your browser can use your webcam.
  • Start the Flash application.
  • Bring the marker in the camera's view (make sure that lighting conditions allow the camera to read the marker's white and black parts correctly).
